Warriors reportedly open to trading former lottery pick

Moses Moody has been with the Golden State Warriors since being drafted with the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. For the majority of his tenure with the franchise, Moody has struggled to nail down a consistent role within Steve Kerr's rotation. However, this season, he's emerging as an important part of the Kerr's roster, suiting up for 34 games (starting 23) and averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He's shooting 40.9% from the field and 36.9% from deep.

However, Moody's long-term future with the Warriors remains in question. The team needs some additional help in the front court, and the trade market looks like the most logical way to make the necessary changes. Moody, who is in the first year of a three-year $37.5 million contract, could be an enticing part of a trade package for Golden State.

According to Forbes' NBA Insider Evan Sidery, the Warriors aren't opposed to the idea of trading Moody, assuming the deal makes sense for the franchise.

"The Warriors are open to moving Moses Moody during trade season for a wing upgrade," Sidery wrote via X. "Previously opposed to moving Moody, Golden State’s young core all appear available for a game-changing move. At 18-16, Golden State is all-in on making another playoff run before it’s too late."

Moody, 23, is still improving. He has a high upside if given a consistent role, and would undoubtedly be a compelling trade chip if offered as part of a deal. However, Golden State will have a full understanding of what Moody can bring to the table, and will be unlikely to part with him unless they're getting a legitimate difference-maker in return.

With the trade deadline only a month away, we should expect the rumor mill to start picking up, and maybe then we will get a better feel for Moody's availability and what the Warriors' front office has planned.
