As the NBA approaches the halfway point of the season, the Milwaukee Bucks' best chance at truly contending for an NBA title likely requires reinforcement of the roster. For the first time in years, however, the Bucks have some financial flexibility to acquire talent via trade.

But, general manager Jon Horst hasn’t been afraid to make some moves in season. A few weeks before the trade deadline, we take a look at what the Bucks can and cannot do, track rumors and league trades.
When is the NBA trade deadline 2026?
Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. CT.
Bucks contract key dates
Jan. 15: Ryan Rollins is eligible to be traded.
What trade restrictions do the Bucks have?
Guard AJ Green is ineligible to be dealt this season because he signed a contract extension in October.
Do the Bucks have draft picks to trade?
Yes, but they will be dipping into the 2031 draft.
The Bucks do not control any of their first-round picks through 2030, as New Orleans and Portland own swap rights due to the Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard trades. Technically, the Bucks can offer swaps on those swaps, but the value in such a scenario is not very high.

Milwaukee Bucks trade rumors
The Bucks are a team that will always be linked to certain players (i.e. veterans seeking a title), but we’ll keep an eye on all the burning trade embers here as they flicker.
Bucks interested in Ja Morant
Multiple league sources have told the USA TODAY SPORTS NETWORK that the Bucks are interested in embattled point guard Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies. Morant, 26, has served a suspension this year for conduct detrimental to the team. Morant is making $39.5 million this season, $42.2 million next season and $44.9 million in 2027-28.

Morant last made an all-star team in 2022-23 and has not been on the floor much the last three seasons due to suspensions and injuries. This year, he is averaging 19.0 points and shooting only 20.8% from behind the 3-point line. He was the league's Rookie of the Year in 2019-20 and its Most Improved Player in 2021-22.
Bucks have been interested in Zach LaVine
League sources have told the Journal Sentinel that Milwaukee continues to have interest in shooting guard Zach LaVine, who is currently shooting 37.6% from behind the 3-point line in Sacramento while averaging 20 points per game. LaVine last made an all-star game in 2021-22, but he is a career 20.7 points per game scorer. LaVine, who will turn 31 in March, is making $47.5 million this season and is likely to pick up his $48.9 million player option for next season.
The Bucks have had interest in acquiring the shooting guard since at least last season.
