Texas A&M has landed its first commit from the transfer portal, as College Station native and senior UTSA tight end Houston Thomas will play his final year of college football with the Aggies, which could have been predicted a mile away given his close connection to the area and head coach Mike Elko.
With 2025 starting tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Theo Melin Öhrström moving on, combined with reserve TE Amari Niblack declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, tight end was a significant need this offseason, knowing that only sophomore Kiotti Armstrong and Micah Riley were the only players set to return next season.

Strategically, getting Thomas on campus this weekend and landing his commitment were critical, as the focus can now shift to other position groups, including defensive line and wide receiver, as the coaching staff prepares to host the No. 1-ranked portal play, WR Cam Coleman, early next week.
On the field, Thomas would be the most established pass-catching tight end since Jace Sternberger, already producing 918 yards and five touchdowns, while hauling in 34 receptions each of his last two seasons with the Roadrunners. On paper, combined with Armstrong's receiving ability, Thomas will provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed another big target while making an impact in the running game.
Standing at 6'5" and nearly 250 pounds, Thomas earned above-average Pro Football Focus marks, including a 67.4 receiving grade and a 66.3 pass blocking grade. Thomas was an all-conference selection during his final season with UTSA.
