North Carolina has landed Penn State defensive end transfer Jaylen Harvey, who committed to the Tar Heels after taking an official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend.

Harvey, a 6-foot-2, 246-pound redshirt freshman, appeared in 11 games for the Nittany Lions and earned a start in the season opener. He logged eight total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one sack across 159 snaps. A native of Gaithersburg, Md., Harvey was a four-star recruit in the 2024 class and still has three seasons of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2024.

UNC will bring back standout pass rusher Melkart Abou-Jaoude, who led the ACC in sacks last season with 10.5. However, the Tar Heels are losing edge defender Tyler Thompson—who finished second on the team with 7.0 sacks—to the transfer portal, making Harvey’s addition even more significant for the defensive front.

Harvey is the second defensive player and the seventh overall transfer-portal addition to commit to North Carolina. The other defensive player, former Florida defensive lineman Tarvosie Brown, committed earlier Monday.
