The Hawaii men’s basketball team dominated all phases and places in today’s 88-45 rout of UC Riverside at SRC Arena in Riverside, Calif.

The Rainbow Warriors swished 13 3-point shots, tying a season high, and constructed a 46-24 advantage on the boards. The’Bows’ 16 offensive rebounds contributed to 16 second-chance points.

The’Bows showed no rust coming off an 18-day hiatus. The’Bows scored the first 10 points, 15 of the first 17, and eventually built the margin to 41-22 with 3 :52 left in the first half. The margin bloated to as much as 44 points in the second half.

“It was a byproduct of the prep and the guys did a good job of handling this unique stretch when they were with us (ahead of the hiatus ), ” head coach Eran Ganot said. “When they came back, obviously, all facets were very strong. We rebounded. We shared the ball. I thought we did a good job overall of taking care of the ball. Our defense was strong, especially in the second half, in the way we came out of the gates. It was a complete performance.”

The Highlanders were without point guard De’Undrae Perteete, who is recovering from a knee ailment. Freshman Tyler Jones made his first start as Perteete’s replacement at the point. With 13 newcomers, the Highlanders’ schemes are rooted in the lost post. Head coach Gus Argenal has said the goal is amass 50 paint touches a game.

But the’Bows were able to find points through a high-low offense. Isaac “Big Fish ” Johnson rolled to the perimeter, where he buried his first three 3-point attempts. Johnson finished with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting. The’Bows had a 40-26 advantage on paint points.

Gytis Nemeiksa came off the UH bench to score 13 points. Isaac Finlinson added 10 points. The’Bows assisted on 21 of their 34 baskets. All 10 of the’Bows who played scored.

The Highlanders managed four assists on 16 field goals.

The’Bows improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big West. They complete this two-game road trip on Saturday against UC San Diego.

Ahead of today’s game, UH announced forward Jalen Myers was removed from the active roster.
