Trinity Rodman has returned to the United States women’s national team roster for January’s international friendlies.
Emma Hayes has also handed debut call-ups to four players for January’s camp, with Seattle Reign forward Maddie Dahlien, 21, and midfielder Sally Menti, 23, Portland Thorns forward Reilyn Turner, 23 and North Carolina Courage midfielder Riley Jackson, 20, all included in a senior camp for the first time.

Thorns midfielder Sam Coffey, however, was not included on the 22-player roster.
Due to January’s friendlies against Paraguay and Chile taking place outside of a FIFA window, Hayes has named a roster consisting entirely of National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) players, meaning U.S. regulars such as Lindsey Heaps, Lily Yohannes, Alyssa Thompson, Naomi Girma and Catarina Macario are not included.
Additionally, Gotham FC’s participation in the inaugural FIFA Champions Cup in Europe means none of the club’s players were named on this roster.
The call-up for Rodman, 23, means she is due to join up with the USWNT for the first time since April 2025. The forward has featured just once for the U.S. since the 2024 Olympic gold medal match against Brazil in the summer of 2024 after injury disrupted her 2025 season. She withdrew from the October after suffering a medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain, and Hayes said November’s camp had come “too soon” for her.

Rodman entered free agency during the offseason, with the NWSL rejecting the Washington Spirit’s proposed multimillion-dollar offer to keep the U.S. international in December.
First-time call-ups Dahlien and Jackson, meanwhile, were both on the roster for the January 2025 futures camp, having played key roles as the U.S. finished third at the 2024 Under-20 World Cup.
“Our roster presents opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate players and for some NWSL players we haven’t seen as much in the National Team environment, as well as for some first-time call-ups, to show they can contribute in 2026, 2027 or beyond,” Hayes said in a press release.
“We’re looking forward to having a few more training days than usual in this camp as well as getting two matches to see this part of the player pool in game action and hopefully add even more depth and options for our 2026 SheBelieves Cup roster.”

‘Seattle Reign representation a testament to club’s young talent’

Seattle Reign players show up in every position of this USWNT roster.
Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey will join the team as the most experienced of the group with six caps; centerback Jordyn Bugg, the only teenager named to the roster, anchors the defensive efforts; Sam Meza and Menti occupy the midfield, and Dahlien pinpoints the attack.
Menti and Dahlien are both making their senior team debuts in this camp after playing with the U-23 team last year. Meza also played with the U-23 and was later named to the senior team last year. This speaks to Hayes’ continued focus on developing younger players and granting them opportunities to challenge themselves at a higher level. It’s also a testament to Seattle’s ability to demonstrate that same thing.
Meanwhile, the absences of prominent, Europe-based players like goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce and Naomi Girma could open the door for players such as Dickey and Bugg to make arguments in favor of playing at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

‘Coffey absence offers Hayes intriguing midfield options’
Midfielder Sam Coffey is a curious absence from this roster considering she played in 14 of the USWNT’s 15 matches last year (starting nine of those), netting four goals recording an assist. Though she plays domestically with the Portland Thorns, it’s possible Hayes wants to rest her after a long and busy season for club and country, as the Thorns finished the NWSL season ranked third and made a postseason run.
With Coffey out this month, as well as Gotham FC defensive midfielder Jaelin Howell, Hayes faces intriguing options in the defensive midfield region in Hal Hershfelt, who was last with the USWNT in 2024, Claire Hutton, and Sam Meza. It’s possible she deploys some combination of them in a double pivot, but this seems like a prime opportunity to begin auditioning roles for Coffey’s backup as the 2027 World Cup approaches.
