Raiders get longer look at NFL Draft top 2 QBs in CFB playoff semifinals

1 week ago 2

New Year's Day was an exciting one if you're a fan of college football. The first two games each featured the expected top two QBs for the upcoming NFL Daft. And both lived up to the hype, leading their teams to wins in the Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl respectively.

First up was Dante Moore and the Oregon Ducks. Despite facing the best defensive line in the country, the Ducks shut out the Texas Tech Red Raiders 23-0. Moore faced constant pressure from the edges and was provided almost no help from the run game. He kept plugging away and made enough plays to come away with the win. Along the way, he completed 79% of his passes, going 26 for 33 for 234 yards.

Immediately after that game, Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers took the field for the Rose Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide. And Mendoza put on a clinic, throwing three touchdowns and leading the Hoosiers to a 24-0 lead late in the third quarter. And they went on to a decisive 38-3 win over the Tide.

Both QB's set themselves up to showcase their talents head-to-head in the semi-finals. Moore and the Ducks will face Mendoza and the Hoosiers in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on January 9.

This is a re-match between these two teams and quarterbacks. Oregon faced Indiana during the regular season and the Hoosiers represent the Ducks' only loss. The Hoosiers won the game 30-20 with Mendoza having a statistically better game than Moore in that game as well. But both QBs have streaked since then, with neither team losing a game and both quarterbacks cementing their places as the draft's top signal callers.

The Raiders will have either the top pick in the NFL Draft or the number two pick. Which slot they have depends in part on whether they win or lose to the Chiefs on Sunday. If the Raiders lose, they have the top pick. If they win, they would need some help to keep that top pick.

Dante Moore would have to officially declare for the the Draft, but if he does, the Raiders would either have their pick of the two, or be guaranteed to have a shot at one of them. A pretty good position to be in considering the immense talent both Moore and Mendoza possess.
