With the firing of Sherrone Moore and the hiring of Kyle Whittingham, it was ensured there would be some turnover. After all, even while the style of play for Michigan football isn't necessarily getting a massive overhaul, the men leading the charge are considerably different.
The transfer portal opened on January 2, and there has since been a flurry of activity, thus far with either players leaving the program or reaffirming that they will be a part of Team 147. Offensive linemen Blake Frazier and Andrew Babalola announced they're returning to Ann Arbor in 2026, but the biggest question surrounds quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Whittingham appeared on Wake Up Barstool on Monday and sounded confident that Underwood would return to the Wolverines in 2026. On Monday night, it became apparent that such would be the case, as Underwood took to social media to announce he will remain with the maize and blue.
Underwood started all 13 games in his freshman season, completing 60.3% of his passes for 2,428 yards, with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran 88 times for 392 yards with six additional touchdowns.
Whittingham detailed his 45 minute conversation with Underwood at his introductory press conference a week ago on Sunday.

"I did a lot of listening. I wanted to get feedback from him. I wanted to get to know him," Whittingham said. Just everything from growing up, family, what’s important to him. And it was a great conversation.
"He’s a special young man, carries himself the right way. You gotta have a quarterback. Quarterback’s got to have that it factor, and Bryce has the it factor along with a ton of talent. Big, strong kid, 6-4, 225-plus pounds. His ceiling is very high. And the offense we’re going to bring in here, I think, is going to suit him to a tee. And I think he’s going to really, really excel and have a great experience here."
