Steelers Reportedly ‘Open’ To Re-Signing Aaron Rodgers For 2026 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for their upcoming wild-card matchup against the Houston Texans. Once they enter the offseason, though, they are going to face some big questions, with the biggest of the bunch revolving around veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his future in the NFL.

At 42 years old, it’s clear that Rodgers is approaching the end of his career. While he initially said he’d retire after this season, he has seemed more open to playing in 2026 as of late. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, if Rodgers were to continue playing, the Steelers would be “more than open” to re-signing him in free agency.

“My understanding is, if Rodgers did want to return for next season, the Steelers, who have really enjoyed the experience, would be more than open to it,” Rapoport said on “NFL GameDay.”

In his first season with Pittsburgh, Rodgers showed that he still has a bit of juice left in the tank, as he threw for 3,322 yards and racked up 25 total touchdowns. He isn’t exactly the player he once was, but he has proven that he can still go out and win games for his team when he’s called upon to do so.

If the Steelers intend to extend their season vs. the Texans, they are going to need Rodgers to be at his best, as Houston’s defense is among the top units in the league. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday night, with the winner moving on to the divisional round of the playoffs.
