This past season, family ties ran strong on the USC football team, as brothers Husan and Kevin Longstreet got the opportunity to play for the Trojans together. Husan, a highly-touted true freshman, was USC's backup quarterback, while Kevin played cornerback for the Trojans.
However, it appears as though their time together in Los Angeles is coming to an end. On Monday, Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that Kevin Longstreet will be enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.

On the surface, the departure of the older Longstreet brother is not a massive loss for the Trojans. Kevin recorded just four tackles and four passes defended as a backup at defensive back in 2025.
The bigger issue, however, is if it means Husan will depart the program as well. A five-star recruit just last year, the younger Longstreet brother was supposed to be USC's quarterback of the future.
With starting quarterback Jayden Maiava returning to USC next year, however, Longstreet would not be able to take over as the starter until 2027. In past decades, that would not have been a big deal—former USC quarterbacks Matt Leinart, John David Booty, Mark Sanchez, and Cody Kessler all sat for multiple years before taking over as the starter. In today's world, however, most quarterbacks tend to transfer if they do not start within a year or two of arriving on campus.
USC is in good hands at QB next season with Maiava. Beyond that, however losing Longstreet would be a significant blow for the future of the program. It will be interesting to see how the Trojans approach the situation, and how hard head coach Lincoln Riley and general manager Chad Bowden push to keep Longstreet around.
