The Oklahoma Sooners continue to try and add to their roster via the transfer portal over the next couple of weeks, but on Thursday afternoon, they saw a former player find a new transfer portal home in the ACC.
Former OU offensive lineman Logan Howland has committed to play for the Virginia Tech Hokies out of the transfer portal. Howland spent three years in Norman, after arriving as a part of the 2023 recruiting class. He was a redshirt sophomore in 2025. Due to heavy injuries on the offensive line in 2024, Howland played in 13 games that season, starting six games at left tackle for a struggling Sooners offense.

This past season, Howland played in five games, serving as an important swing offensive tackle for Oklahoma up front. Howland provided good depth, and he was able to step in when injuries mounted at both tackle positions. His exit has left the Sooners thin at the tackle spots, a position where injuries have often been a big factor. He was capable of holding down the fort on either the left or the right side.
Offensive line will be a point of emphasis for OU this offseason. Seniors Febechi Nwaiwu and Derek Simmons are out of eligibility, and the Sooners have lost Howland, Troy Everett, Isaiah Dent, Jacob Sexton (Oklahoma State), Luke Baklenko, and Jake Taylor (Iowa State) to the transfer portal over the last couple of weeks.
Oklahoma has added three transfer offensive linemen into the mix, in Western Kentucky's Caleb Nitta, Arkansas' E'Marion Harris, and Central Oklahoma's Kenneth Wermy. They also hope to return four, or even five potential starters for the 2026 season.
