The Miami Dolphins hired Hall of Fame quarterback and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman to consult and advise the team during its hunt for a new general manager, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Aikman, 59, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and earned six trips to the Pro Bowl, three Super Bowl rings, and Super Bowl MVP honors. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

In his post-football career, Aikman has served as a color commentator for FOX and ESPN.
"Miami ownership wanted an outside respected perspective from someone who had strong relationships across the league," Schefter wrote in his report on the Aikman hire.
The Dolphins parted ways with general manager Chris Grier at the end of October after a 1-7 start to the season. Champ Kelly is currently serving as the team's interim GM in Grier's place.
