Cowboys Headlines: Diggs' destinations; Joe Milton preps to play in Week 18

1 week ago 2

The release of Trevon Diggs was expected by most in Cowboys Nation. Its timing on Tuesday, however, came as the real bombshell. The divorce had, unfortunately, been a long time in coming, through some dramatic twists and turns over the last several months, but the puzzling final straw appears to have been a disagreement over the cornerback traveling back to Dallas with the team following their Christmas Day win in the nation's capital. Now on the waiver wire, could Diggs end up alongside his best friend in Green Bay? Or will another playoff-bound team swoop in and grab the onetime league interceptions leader?

Dak Prescott will reportedly get the start in the regular-season finale for the Cowboys, but how much will he play? Joe Milton is also prepping for action in Week 18. And could the last game of the season bring an opportunity for Phil Mafah to finally get on the field for a look? And speaking of unused rookies, UDFA tight end Rivaldo Fairweather will end the season on the Cardinals' gameday roster after a last-minute poaching by Arizona.

Checking in on the Giants, Jaxson Dart's dad has now weighed in on Danny Kanell's harsh criticism of the rookie QB, though it's not clear how much weight Brandon Dart's Stranger Things quote will carry with the organization as they look ahead to 2026. Big Blue did, coincidentally, give up their best shot at the No. 1 overall pick with last weekend's win over the Raiders. But despite the mess the G-Men are in, the New York job still has to be considered among the best head coach openings in the league this offseason.

Elsewhere in the league, Trevon Diggs's brother Stefon is facing serious criminal charges after a personal chef he hired claims he tried to strangle her in a clash over nonpayment. In Pittsburgh, T.J. Watt could be making a Week 18 comeback as the Steelers try to win the AFC North. And Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell is staying positive when it comes to his defensive coordinator Brian Flores; could the red-hot coaching candidate be persuaded to stay in Vikings purple?
