Bills' Ray Davis on Jets performance, stadium finale: 'It was special'

The Bills defeated the Jets 35-8 in their season finale and farewell game at Highmark Stadium in NFL Week 18.

The win gave Buffalo some momentum heading into the postseason, and gave a number of players the opportunity to get some playing time as the team rested many of its starters.

One of them was RB Ray Davis, who had a season high in rushing attempts and yards, carrying the ball 21 times for 151 yards, catching two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown, and adding a 22-yard kickoff return in a special teams contribution.

"Just trusting in myself and believing in the scheme," Davis shared with the press on what the experience was like. "Going out there and just taking in the opportunity that I was given today, man. And, you know, I just wanted to show everybody I am who I am and I deserve to be in the league, and I have all the confidence in myself to go out there and play ball."

The 2024 fourth-round pick's 151 yards were almost double that of the Jets' total rushing yards as a team (69), and he has had an increased role on special teams this season, fielding kick returns and even kicking a couple of field goals in the preseason.

It was the second and final meeting between the teams this season, and the second time Buffalo took to the rushing game to ground the Jets.

Starting running back James Cook III would finish the 2025 regular season as the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,621 rushing yards, becoming the first Bill to lead the league in rushing since O.J. Simpson in 1976.

Cook took a couple of handoffs to start the game, then after the second snap, it was Davis and Ty Johnson who carried the ball the rest of the way.

"Man, I love it," Davis added. "I love to be able to see the production from all of us, right? Jimbo setting the tone and setting the pace, and then me and Ty just going out there and doing what we got to do, whether we're running the ball, pass pro, catching, whatever it is, just being able to see the success that all three of us continue to have has been pretty fun. And we all feed off each other, we all communicate with each other, and that's the good thing. Soon as we come off the sideline, James is talking, Ty's talking, I'm talking, and we're just trying to continue to be the best group we can be."

The team will now turn the page to head South to Florida and prepare to face the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday in the Wildcard round of the playoffs.

They capped their regular season with a final victory at their longtime stadium to improve to 12-5 and the No. 6 seed.

Like many of his fans and teammates, Davis took it all in.

"It was special to see what it meant to some of the guys. There's guys who've been there for a decade, and there's guys who've been here for a year who put their blood, sweat, and tears on that field," running back Ray Davis said. "Just see the guys embrace it and go out with a win and let the city of Buffalo feel special and know that this was a special one for them, it's pretty cool. I've been here for two years … I was able to play a little bit of a small part on that field to bring some happiness."
