Wisconsin transfer quarterback commits to new program

Wisconsin transfer quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. committed to North Carolina on Sunday, following a weekend visit to the program.

The veteran quarterback entered the portal last week after one season with the Badgers. He joined the program last offseason after a successful 2024 campaign at Maryland. Edwards' time as Wisconsin's starter was short-lived, however, as he suffered a knee injury during the team's season-opening contest. He would return for only one offensive series a few weeks later, finishing the season with seven completions on 16 attempts for 113 yards.

Edwards will now look to turn around a North Carolina program, led by longtime NFL coach Bill Belichick, that struggled to a 4-8 record in 2025. The team averaged just 19.2 points per game, ranked No. 120 in the nation. Limited production in the passing game was part of those struggles; the Tar Heels averaged just 183.5 pass yards per game, ranked No. 111 in the sport.

Wisconsin, on the other hand, is set to enter 2026 with Old Dominion transfer Colton Joseph starting under center. Joseph will be the program's fifth season-opening starting quarterback in as many seasons. He'll look to turn around a passing offense that averaged just 136.4 yards per game in 2025, the fifth-lowest total in the nation.

Both North Carolina and Wisconsin will hope their transfer move pay dividends next fall.
