What LSU football fans should know about transfer WR Jayce Brown

Former Kansas State wide receiver Jayce Brown has committed to LSU football for the 2026 season. He’s the 10th-ranked receiver in On3’s portal rankings, and the 21st on 247Sports’. Over his three seasons with the Wildcats, Brown totaled 115 catches for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging nearly 60 receiving yards per game.

Although Brown’s current standing among his peers might not wow Tiger fans, he has a real shot at outperforming it next season. He doesn’t project to be the type of pass-catcher LSU fans are used to getting excited about, with names like Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase coming through Baton Rouge in recent years, but he’s the perfect complementary piece in Lane Kiffin’s offense.

Brown operates primarily out of the slot, aligning there on 70.4% of his routes in 2025. That doesn’t mean he’s the sort of nifty route runner who struggles to win deep, however. Among Power Four receivers who saw at least 30 targets this season, Brown’s 2.93 yards per route run was the eighth-best mark, per PFF. Here’s a perfect example of Brown’s ability to separate downfield from early this season:

Although he stands six feet tall, Brown has more than enough movement skills to make defenders miss in the open field. He had only four forced missed tackles this season, but his ability to be an excellent option with the ball in his hands — both after the catch and as a pure runner — was evident nonetheless.

Then there’s the work he does just to move the sticks. Brown is an excellent route runner and consistently created separation at all three levels during his time at Kansas State.

Again, Brown probably shouldn’t be the centerpiece of the offense. His skill set is somewhat limited, and will likely keep him from being the most productive and impactful receiver on the team. However, he does bring a high-quality skill set to pair with whoever Kiffin and his staff sign next.
