“When they last met” is an ongoing series during the NFL season that recalls the previous game between Washington and the next opponent on the Commanders’ schedule.

Philadelphia 29, Washington 18 Week 16, Dec. 20, 2025

The Commanders played a competitive first half but were completely outplayed in the second, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 29-18 at Northwest Stadium in Landover.

Washington had an opportunity to score a touchdown on its opening possession when, on the opening kickoff, Mike Sainristil forced a Will Shipley fumble that the Commanders' Kain Medrano recovered on the Eagles' 26.

However, the Commanders could not put the ball in the end zone, settled for a field goal, and led only 10-7 at the half. The second half saw the Eagles outscore the Commanders 22-8. Actually, what transpired in the second half was that the Eagles ran the ball down the Commanders' throats, going on a 22-0 scoring spree, and the Commanders scored one late TD after the game was long settled.

The Eagles rushed for 207 yards, while the Commanders managed only 90. Saquon Barkley rushed for 132 yards in 21 carries, including a 48-yard run and a 12-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jalen Hurts passed for 185 yards and two touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 111.1. Hurts also added 40 rushing yards on seven carries.

The Commanders' Marcus Mariota got the start but struggled, passing for only 95 yards in 14 passing attempts before being injured and replaced by Josh Johnson. Johnson only passed for 43 yards, was sacked once, and intercepted once for a passer rating of 28.7.

The game, unfortunately, will most be remembered for Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni choosing to go for two points when the Eagles had marched 80 yards to go up 27-10 with only 4:26 remaining. Saquon Barkley scored on the two-point attempt, and a brawl ensued, as no doubt, Commanders players knew Sirianni was rubbing their noses in the dirt, and as a result, a real fight broke out with punches thrown, resulting in the ejections of Eagles OL Tyler Steen and Commanders' Javon Kinlaw and Quan Martin.
