Warriors' Stephen Curry back Steve Kerr following ejection

5 days ago 2

Steve Kerr was ejected from the Golden State Warriors' loss to the LA Clippers on Monday, January 5. The veteran head coach became frustrated after a run of poor calls from the game officials culminated in a missed goaltending call in the fourth quarter. Gary Payton II's shot appeared to hit the backboard before John Collins touched the rock, although the whistle never blew.

Kerr's decision to step onto the court and challenge the referee led to two quick technical fouls, and from there, Terry Stotts was delegated to lead the Warriors for the remainder of the game. During his postgame news conference, Stephen Curry admitted that he was pleased to see Kerr call out the officials, noting that if Kerr hadn't done it, he would have.

“To be honest, I was gonna do that but I saw him," Curry said. "That’s why I fouled Kris Dunn because I was watching coach go crazy and I was appreciative of that. Two crazy calls in a row… I love that. That fire from Steve. Somebody had to do it tonight.”

If given the choice, Kerr would undoubtedly take the heat, rather than allowing Curry to potentially be ejected from a close game. Therefore, his decision to call out the referees was likely the right one. Still, Curry's comments show that Kerr wasn't the only one who felt aggrieved by the decision-making from the game officials during the clutch.

Nevertheless, the game is over, and Golden State has another loss on its record. The team will now turn its attention to an eight-game home stand in the coming weeks, likely with the hope of putting a run of wins together and climbing up the Western Conference.
