The Arizona high school basketball season is about to pick up again for most schools following the Nike Tournament of Champions in Mesa and the holiday break.

Here are The Republic's top 10 girls AIA teams through Week 7, regardless of conference. Records include AIA and tournament games per MaxPreps. Vote in our poll below for which team you think should be No. 1. (Print readers can find the poll with this story on azcentral.com/sports/high-schools). The poll will close on Jan. 8 at noon.

1. Goodyear Millennium (8-3)

Went 2-2 at Nike TOC, including picking up a win against nationally-ranked Monsignor Scanlan (New York). Junior guard Dashia Richardson and Utah transfer T'maea Eteuati are forming one of the top backcourts in the state.

2. Surprise Valley Vista (7-3)

Also went 2-2 at Nike TOC like their West Valley rivals. Still undefeated against in-state competition.

3. Gilbert Perry (9-3)

Has a chance to rebound after a tough go at Nike TOC (1-3) with a big 6A Premier region game against No. 7 Chandler Basha this week. Senior Bella Burcar’s return from injury has been key for the Pumas early on.

4. Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor (8-2)

After losing for the first time to an Arizona opponent against No. 1 Millennium before the holiday break, O’Connor responded with a 69-42 win over Redwood (California) at the 5th Annual Nike Sabrina Inonescu Classic. Now gets ready to face No. 2 Valley Vista in a top-tier matchup between two ranked teams with title aspirations.

5. Gilbert Campo Verde (11-2)

Saw its 10-game win streak snapped by Kingdom Collegiate Academy (Texas) and Democracy Prep Agassi Campus (Nevada) at the Las Vegas Classic, but got back on its feet with a 75-39 win over Phoenix Sunnyslope. Freshman guard Jaiyana Bogan-Jacobs is proving to be a sensation, averaging 20.5 points per game.

6. Tucson Salpointe Catholic (12-1)

Fell 54-46 in the final of the 13th Annual Gator Winter Classic to Liberty (Nevada), the first loss of the season for the Lancers. Coach Joseph Luevano and his reloaded roster will get to see where they stack up against in-state competition this week as they hit the road for games at Sunnyside (13-1) and No. 1 Millennium.

7. Chandler Basha (8-3)

Coming off winning the Lady Badger Winter Classic in Prescott. Senior Grace Beckler (17.4 points, 11.2 rebounds per game) continues to be a problem for opposing teams.

8. Chandler Hamilton (8-5)

Went 2-2 at Nike TOC, losing to St. Anthony (California) and No. 9 Gilbert Highland and finishing off with a 60-46 win over Phoenix Xavier Prep. The defending 6A state champions will try to get back on track against Peoria Liberty and Mesa Mountain View this week.

9. Gilbert Highland (10-4)

Provided one of the upset wins of the season, beating No. 8 Hamilton 78-74 at Nike TOC. With flag football players now added to the roster and more players in the mix, such as sophomore Lacie Nemchick, the Hawks feature athleticism up and down the court.

10. Tempe McClintock (13-2) 

One of the new additions to the list this week, the Chargers are on a roll. McClintock has wins over Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep, Gilbert Williams Field, Mesa and Glendale Raymond S. Kellis this season, all Open Division teams last year.

On the bubble: Tucson Sunnyside, Gilbert Higley, Gilbert, Phoenix Desert Vista, Phoenix Xavier Prep, Gilbert Mesquite, Glendale Raymond S. Kellis, Chandler, Flagstaff, Phoenix North, Snowflake.
