We discussed Aston Villa's chances of winning the league on the BBC's Monday Night Club last week and I felt then that although it is possible, it isn 'o likely.
This offended one or two of their fans and after beating Chelsea away - and extending their winning run to an incredible 11 in a row - they thought I should reconsider.

Well, it is put less politely than that on social media but I caught the drift.
Now only three points behind Arsenal, I agree they are still in the hunt and are indeed a good enough team. But as mentioned on the show, the problem could still be the size and quality of the squad as the season wears on. There is a big compliment in there if you look hard enough.
Villa were royally outclassed against Chelsea for 60 minutes until Unai Emery made a triple substitution, then they immediately outshone their hosts. So is the squad deep enough after all?
You have to compare it with the depth and quality at Manchester City and Arsenal. As such, I still think they should be considered underdogs but with one major caveat.

If the club can work some magic in the January transfer window, as they have done before, then that small gap could still be bridged. Having no players at Afcon helps their cause as well.
So yes, they are underdogs, but are they no-hopers after this brilliant run? Not at all.
