Derik Queen has had a productive run with the New Orleans Pelicans, and the rookie received some words of encouragement from executive vice president Joe Dumars.
Queen is averaging 13.3 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal on 49.9% shooting from the field in 34 appearances with the Pelicans. He leads the rookie class in rebounding and double-doubles (6), and is one of three first-year players with multiple 30-point games.

The 13th pick in the draft became a full-time starter on Nov. 16 and has delivered several notable performances. Dumars wants to see him continue to build on those outings, as he recently told Queen, according to team writer Jim Eichenhofer.
Queen registered his first triple-double on Dec. 8, recording 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He has five double-doubles in December alone, including three straight, tied for the second-longest streak by a rookie in franchise history.
The 21-year-old has played a crucial role for the Pelicans, helping them to a season-high five straight wins earlier this month. He is dazzling with his playmaking, acting as a hub on offense, and is showcasing his overall skill set and ability on a nightly basis.
