Vijay Singh, 62, in position to make the cut on PGA Tour at Sony Open

There were some questioning the move but Vijay Singh has perhaps quelled some of the chatter a bit.

Singh, 62 and a regular on the PGA Tour Champions for more than a decade, opted to use his one-time exemption on the PGA Tour's career money list to play on the main circuit in 2026.

That gave him a spot in the 120-player field at the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii, a tournament he won in 2005. That win came during a four-win campaign and was part of a stretch of 17 wins over three seasons. He has 34 PGA Tour wins in all, good for 14th on the all-time list.

As for that career money, Singh led the Tour in money three times and sits eighth on the all-time earnings list with more than $71 million.

Thursday, he went out and shot 2-under 68 despite a pair of double bogeys, including his first hole of the week. He then followed that up on Friday by shooting even-par 70.

Playing in the second round's early wave, Singh walked off the golf course at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu at 2 under. At the time, 1 under had about a 40 or so percent chance of being the cut, according to datagolf.

As the afternoon wave started teeing off, the projected cut of 1 under jumped to nearly 88 percent.

Singh is among the 42 players set to play in the PGA Tour Champions season-opener next week on the big island at Hualalai at the Mitsubishi.
