With the end of UConn football’s season and a head coaching transition in place, former Husky assistants are moving on as well. These guys were part of the program’s most successful FBS run, and many of them have earned great new jobs as a result.
Offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis, coming off two Broyles Award nominations and a breakout 2025 season that saw standout performances from QB Joe Fagnano, RB Cam Edwards, and WR Skyler Bell, has been officially announced as the new OC at TCU. He may bring one or two other UConn assistants with him to the Big 12 squad that played in the 2023 national championship game. Sammis also served as the Huskies’ interim head coach for the Fenway Bowl.

Defensive coordinator Matt Brock has accepted a co-DC role at Mississippi State, where he was previously in that role. His defense performed well in 2024 as the strength of that team, though it took a step back in 2025.
Former UConn WR coach Kashif Moore is on his way out. The former UConn and NFL WR thanked Husky fans in a recent Twitter post.
Special teams coordinator Doug Shearer is reportedly taking the same role on James Franklin’s staff at Virginia Tech. The 2013 UConn grad was previously a quality-control assistant at NC State before becoming special teams coordinator at Miami (OH) and then returning to his alma mater, where he spent five seasons on Jim Mora’s staff.
