The Tennessee Titans were the first NFL franchise to have a head coaching vacancy for the 2026 cycle, as the team fired Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start, and interim coach Mike McCoy is unlikely to be promoted to the full-time role.

Tennessee has already scheduled a plethora of interviews with potential candidates, but Sportsnaut's Matt Johnson predicts the Titans' next head coach will be someone whom they've yet to interview.

Johnson believes former Dallas Cowboys' head coach Mike McCarthy will ultimately land in Tennessee to kickstart the team's rebuild, centered around promising young quarterback Cam Ward.

"The Tennessee Titans need to find stability and a head coach who can truly mentor quarterback Cam Ward. Both Dak Prescott and Aaron Rodgers have credited Mike McCarthy with helping them take significant steps forward in their respective careers. McCarthy is also well-regarded as a leader and credited with helping organizations improve through the use of analytics and modernized structural changes. These are all things Tennessee needs."

McCarthy is one of the top candidates on the head coaching market this offseason. The 2011 Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers boasts a 174-112-2 record as a head coach, and though he was let go by Dallas at the end of the 2024 season, McCarthy led the Cowboys to three straight 12-5 seasons from 2021 to 2023.

Obviously, McCarthy is best known for his time in Green Bay, where he won a Super Bowl and had a 125-77-2 record with 11 playoff wins. After taking a year off, McCarthy seems ready to get back into coaching, as he will meet with the New York Giants regarding their head coach opening next week.

If the Titans can schedule an interview with McCarthy and eventually hire him, it would be a fantastic addition. McCarthy's quarterback track record with Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott would fit well with Ward, who showed signs of greatness during his rookie campaign and just needs the right coaching staff around him.

Overall, McCarthy would be a high-level hire from Tennessee, as the former Cowboys and Packers head coach can get the Titans back on track and play a pivotal role in Ward's development.
