Texas A&M transfer edge headed east to his new ACC home for 2026

In what increasingly resembles NFL free agency, the portal now commands more attention than National Signing Day or even the early signing period. Love it or hate it, it’s not going anywhere—and every program in the country feels its impact.

But the portal also gives players the same flexibility coaches enjoy: the ability to leave when a better opportunity presents itself. On Tuesday, former Texas A&M redshirt sophomore edge Rylan Kennedy found exactly that, landing with an ACC program in the Sunshine State. While he had a chance to play in an elevated role, a starting spot elsewhere was always an option.

According to On3Sports’ Hayes Fawcett, Kennedy will join the Florida State Seminoles for the 2026 season and will arrive in Tallahassee with two years of eligibility remaining. The former three‑star prospect stayed through the coaching transition in College Station and continued to show encouraging flashes. There was a realistic path for him to carve out a larger role in the rotation next fall.

However, sweeping changes to the defensive staff and a fresh start may be exactly what he needs for a clearer path to playing time. Kennedy's frame and raw ability as a pass rusher could, and should result in a memorable season for the Mansfield, Texas native.

You can see his announcement below.

The NCAA football transfer portal opened Jan. 2 and runs through Jan. 16.
