Texas A&M starting QB announces official return for the 2026 season

Outside of landing star players from the transfer portal to replenish the roster, the most significant storyline this offseason is by far the play of starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who announced during a podcast appearance with former Baylor and Heisman-winning quarterback Robert Griffin that he will return to Texas A&M for his redshirt junior season.

However, while this statement was on camera, he had not provided an official announcement, which is usually made through a social media account, as coaches do when signing contracts or extensions. Well, on Friday night, the Nashville, Tennessee native made things official, announcing via Instagram that he will be back in the lineup next season, and will now work with new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch.

Both of these hires, given Reed's struggles towards the latter half of the 2025 season, have led the Aggie fan base to question the starting signal caller's trajectory as a passer. Still, after throwing for a career high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns during his first full starting season, the talent is there. Still, his mechanics, especially his footwork, must improve next season for the Aggies to have any shot at returning to the College Football Playoff.

Still, his 12 interceptions, also a career high, were mainly off of forced passes due to a lack of success in the run game, leading to head coach Mike Elko stating that "fixing the line of scrimmage" this offseason would be the focus, knowing that Reed's assumed return requires a balanced offensive attack.

While the specifics are unknown, the bogus rumors regarding Texas A&M's future quarterback situation have been put to bed, as Matt Zenitz has further confirmed that Reed has agreed to a new deal to remain in College Station.
