This Sunday's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens will decide the winner of the AFC North and could decide the fate of one of the head coaches in the game. There's been a great deal of speculation about whether the Steelers would move on from head coach Mike Tomlin if the team fails to make the playoffs, or if they make it but fail to get a playoff win.
We have maintained all season that no matter what happens with this season, the Rooneys are not going to fire Tomlin in the offseason. It just isn't their style. However, there might be an out for them after next season and we won't be at all shocked if they use it, should this season go south on Sunday.

Tomlin is heading into the final year of his current contract, but has an option for 2027. As with a player, the team can simply choose not to exercise that option. If that happens, Tomlin would coach for his future as a lame duck in 2026. We don't see this happening unless the Steelers get beaten by the Ravens in Week 18 after squandering a perfect opportunity to lock up the AFC North last week against the Cleveland Browns.
