Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners hiring of Jason Witten

The Oklahoma Sooners have had a great offseason thus far, adding several impact players in the transfer portal and the 2026 recruiting class to a team that went 10-2 and made the College Football Playoff. Now they've made a significant coaching hire as well. The Sooners are hiring former Dallas Cowboys great and future NFL Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten as their new tight end coach.

Witten comes to Oklahoma after a successful coaching career at Liberty High School that included back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024.

He had a 16-year career with the Dallas Cowboys, from 2003 to 2019, with a one-year retirement in 2018. He also spent one season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020.

During his career, he averaged 77 receptions for 818 yards and five touchdowns, made the Pro Bowl 11 times, and earned four All-Pro selections.

Known for his toughness and grit, Witten played fewer than 16 games just once in his career, which came during his rookie season.

He's yet to coach at the collegiate level and hasn't spent time strictly as a position coach, but this is a huge hire for the Sooners. They immediately get a bump on the recruiting trail. As a coach, Witten will have his position playing with the same toughness, determination, work ethic, and leadership that he was known for as a player.
