On Monday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a massive transfer portal commitment from former NC State running back Hollywood Smothers.
Alabama's second transfer portal commitment this offseason, the addition of Smothers is a massive one due to how the Crimson Tide simply struggled to run the ball during the 2025 campaign, and will now give offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb a caliber of athlete at running back the program has arguably not seen since Jahmyr Gibbs in 2022.

Entering his redshirt junior season, Smothers has spent the last two seasons at NC State after previously beginning his collegiate career at Oklahoma in 2023. With the Wolfpack, Smothers rushed for a combined 1,510 yards and 12 touchdowns on 249 attempts, while also hauling in 56 receptions for 452 yards and three more scores.
Smothers is also currently ranked as the No. 2 overall running back in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.
