Ryan Clark makes shocking prediction on Tomlin's future with Steelers

Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety-turned-ESPN analyst Ryan Clark sounded off on Mike Tomlin’s future, predicting he’d leave the Steel City to find success coaching an NFC East team.

On a recent edition of ESPN’s First Take, Clark shared an incredibly bold take for the 2026 season — Tomlin leaves the Black and Gold in Pittsburgh for the Big Blue of the New York Giants.

“Mike Tomlin leads the New York Giants to the playoffs,” Clark said. “…Mutual parting of ways after they lose to the Ravens this weekend. The Rooney, Mara family — because of that, Mike Tomlin is now the new head coach of the New York Giants. You wanna make a splash. You want to get the right guy. You wanna change the culture. That’s the way to do it.”

Two of the most influential families in NFL history, the Rooney and Mara families — responsible for the Steelers’ and Giants’ creation, respectively — were connected through marriage when Chris Mara, Giants senior player personnel executive and grandson of team founder Tim Mara, married Kathleen Rooney, the granddaughter of Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr.

It's still highly unlikely Clark's bold prediction comes to fruition, but Tomlin and the Steelers could be heading for a split if Pittsburgh can't pull off the Week 18 victory over the Ravens this Sunday.
