The Pittsburgh Steelers are on a hunt for a new head coach for the first time in a long time after Mike Tomlin stepped down from his position following the 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans in the playoffs.

Now, the Steelers are in the hunt for their fourth head coach in franchise history.

Tomlin has been leading the team for the past 19 seasons, so it will be interesting to see who the team president Art Rooney II and general manager Omar Khan decide on for 2026 and beyond.

In his first time speaking publicly on the situation on Wednesday, Art Rooney II addressed the current situation for the Steelers, and a coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams is first on the list for interviews.

Rams' Nate Scheelhaase labeled as first 'head coach interview request' for Steelers

According to senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase is the "first known head coach interview request" for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Scheelhaase, 36, is a young coach in the NFL who has advanced up the ranks within the past decade.

He started his coaching career at Iowa State, serving as a coach in multiple offensive positions before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the Cyclones in his final year with the school.

In 2024, the Los Angeles Rams hired Scheelhaase as a passing game coordinator, helping contribute to quarterback Matthew Stafford and his success over the past two seasons.

Scheelhaase is likely just one of many other candidates the Steelers will bring in for interviews as the next head coach for the organization, but, intriguingly, the Rams' passing game coordinator is the first of many.
