The Penn State Nittany Lions have landed another commitment out of the transfer portal, and it is once again a player the new coaching staff knows extremely well. Former Iowa State safety Marcus Neal Jr. committed to them on Sunday, following head coach Matt Campbell and safeties coach Deon Broomfield from Ames to State College.
Neal had an excellent sophomore season for Iowa State, recording 77 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and three pass breakups in 12 games. He was named to the All-Big 12 third team for his breakout performance.

He played in 13 games as a true freshman in 2024, finishing with 18 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble. The Kansas City, Missouri, native will have two seasons of eligibility for Penn State.
Neal is ranked as the No. 100 player in the transfer portal and the No. 7 safety by 247Sports. His two seasons at the college level have caused him to shoot up the rankings after he was a three-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, ranking as the No. 1082 player and No. 110 safety in the 247Sports composite.
Neal is the third former Iowa State player who has committed to Penn State out of the transfer portal, joining offensive tackle Will Tompkins and tight end Benjamin Brahmer. Campbell is going after several other former Iowa State players, including quarterback Rocco Becht.
