Michigan football has long been a tight end factory and now the Wolverines are adding more talent.
JJ Buchanan, who just finished his freshman season at Utah, is on his way to Ann Arbor, he posted on social media on Sunday, Jan. 11. Buchanan, a Nevada native, was third among Utes in receptions (26), receiving yards (425) and touchdowns (five). While averaging 16.4 yards a catch, he piled up the most receiving yards of any freshman tight end in the nation this past season.

U-M tight ends, meanwhile, combined for 56 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns in 2025.
Buchanan stands 6 feet 4 and 208 pounds and had multiple receptions in nine of his final 10 games, which included a career-long 60-yard grab in a 51-47 victory over Kansas State.
Michigan's tight end room thinned out a bit this offseason, with Marlin Klein declaring for the draft and Brady Prieskorn entering the transfer portal.
Buchanon shared on his social media earlier in the week that he was on a visit to Ann Arbor – now he's following his position coach, Freddie Whittingham (brother of new Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham) – to the Midwest.
