The New England Patriots released a statement on Tuesday, following the report that wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing multiple criminal charges from an alleged incident on December 2.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs," the statement read. "Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

According to Boston 25 News, Diggs has been charged with "felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges." The December 2 date was the first day of the Patriots' bye week, after blowing out the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Per Boston 25 News, Diggs' attorneys sought to have the "police report impounded, arguing that the details should remain sealed." The four-time Pro Bowler will be arraigned on Friday, January 23.

This news comes after the Patriots clinched the AFC East division title in a 42-10 blowout win over the New York Jets on Sunday. They have already clinched a spot in the postseason and will be playing for the top seed in Week 18.
