The Oklahoma Sooners lost a key piece to their special teams units and to the future of their defense on Wednesday. According to multiple reports, former four-star prospect Jaydan Hardy is entering the transfer portal.
Hardy, a four-star signee in the 2024 recruiting class, played a key role for the Sooners' special teams. His forced fumble on a punt return attempt by Ryan Williams helped propel Oklahoma to a win over Alabama.

He played 163 snaps for the Sooners' defense, three times playing at least 20 snaps as a part of Oklahoma's safety rotation.

Veteran safety Robert Spears-Jennings entered the NFL draft, and the expectation is that Peyton Bowen will be back for his senior season to lead the group. They'll also have Michael Boganowski and safety/cheetah Reggie Powers III returning. 2025 signee Omarion Robinson created buzz throughout fall camp and in-season practices for his grasp of the defense and playmaking ability. The Sooners also added Markel Ford and Niko Jandreau to the safety room this spring.
Safeties coach Brandon Hall has done an excellent job recruiting and developing the position, and Hardy's departure opens the door for someone else to earn an opportunity.
