Nikola Jokic injury: What we know about Nuggets star's knee

12 hours ago 1

Denver Nuggets fans are anxiously awaiting information on the health of three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who went down with a left knee injury Monday night against the Miami Heat. Jokic suffered the injury with just six seconds to go in the second quarter, and despite being listed questionable to return, he never returned to the floor.

Jokic was guarding the paint when teammate Spencer Jones inadvertently stepped on his foot, causing Jokic's knee to buckle and hyperextend. It was a scary scene as Jokic immediately clutched his knee in pain and needed assistance from trainers and medical staff before eventually exiting the floor.

“Immediately, he knew something was wrong,” Nuggets coach David Adelman said after the game. “This is part of the NBA. Anyone who gets hurt, it’s gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as he is.”

The Nuggets are expected to conduct testing and imaging on Jokic's knee Tuesday and will provide an update shortly thereafter.

Jokic was dominating to the tune of 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds prior to his injury. He's enjoying another sensational season, averaging 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds and 11 assists for the 22-10 Nuggets. Injuries are mounting for Denver, however, as Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun and Cameron Johnson are also sidelined.

“We’ll find our more tomorrow and move on as a team,” Adelman said. “I’m more concerned about him as a person and the disappointment of going through something like that. It’s unfortunate and we’re hoping for the best. We have to stay with it to best support our teammates who are out and honor them when they play."

Jokic is one of the NBA's most exciting players, so hopefully he's able to return to the court sooner rather than later.
