NFL Pro Bowler says losing to Josh Allen, Tyler Shough feels familiar

4 days ago 2

Terron Armstead spent the first leg of his NFL career protecting Drew Brees, so he knows a great quarterback when he sees one. And so do his friends and peers around the league like Pro Bowl guard Robert Hunt. On his The Set podcast, Armstead shared a great quote from Hunt after his Carolina Panthers were beaten by New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough.

"He texted me, he said, 'Man I leave the division with Josh Allen and I come to this division. And looking at Tyler Shough, it's looking like it's about to start over. Matter of fact," Armstead stopped to retrieve his phone and look up the message so he could quote Hunt directly. "I don't even want to go and miss any type of verbiage. He said 'Shough is the real deal. Left Josh Allen's division, left from Josh Allen being in the division, and came to this [expletive] with Shough in it.'"

Whew. That's about as strong of an endorsement as you could get from a division rival. Like Armstead, Hunt previously played for the Miami Dolphins -- who lost to Allen's Buffalo Bills in seven of their eight meetings. Hunt won Pro Bowl recognition in 2024, his first in Carolina, and got to split the series with New Orleans. But the fun ended in 2025 when Shough swept his team. It's territory that feels all too familiar.

To be clear, we shouldn't expect Shough to develop into a league MVP like Allen did. But that opposing players like Hunt are already getting the same feeling after losing to both of them says a lot. So long as Shough can keep building and improving his game, he's going to leave opponents feeling disappointed for a very long time.
