A concerning medical situation is playing out as well as it could be for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. On Thursday morning, NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reported that Olave would miss Sunday's regular season finale with the Atlanta Falcons are a blood clot was detected in his lung during a hospital visit. ESPN's Adam Schefter added that while Olave will spend about a month recovering but is expected to be full-go when the Saints regroup this spring for their offseason program.
In an Instagram post shared with fans on social media, Olave expressed gratitude that his condition was caught when it was, and added that his bounce back is on its way, flexing from his hospital bed for emphasis:
Thank you God for everything! Right where I need to be, life is full of unexpected twists & turns & I’m grateful to experience it. Chin up, chest out & keep it pushin. I don’t want ya sympathy just talk to God for me. Bounce back otw!
Olave turned up the heat this season by setting new personal-bests in a number of stats; after missing nine games last year due to concussions and while battling through a back injury in December, he still set new highs in receptions (100), receiving yards (1,163) and touchdown catches (9), with his 53 first downs just barely finishing in second behind his 2023 total (57). With Tyler Shough starting at quarterback since Week 9, Olave averaged 6 receptions for 110 yards each week, catching six touchdowns in eight games. The future is bright for that duo, especially once Olave has put this medical episode behind him.
