Cam Reddish never lived up to the hype.

Top player agent Rich Paul, known for representing LeBron James, believes the Duke Blue Devils' setup at the time Reddish arrived is at least partially to blame.

On the Game Over Podcast, Paul said this:

“I watched this kid score 50 of the easiest points, me and Mav was together and was like damn that looked easy. 6’9, fluid. When he got to college with RJ and Zion, he was kinda the third option. That can do something mentally to you, confidence… Then you go to the draft you supposed to be top 5 pick. You go 10th to a team that took a player you were ranked better than the whole time and in front of you at 4 in Deandre Hunter. Then you get traded, it’s circumstance."

That idea, that Reddish was the third option, is certainly true.

Zion Williamson was a force of nature.

RJ Barrett was a smoother, more natural college scorer.

That left Reddish to fill in the gaps rather than be a star.

And man, he's right: In high school, Reddish was immensely special.

He has never fully put it together in the NBA, either. It's been a bit of a bummer of a basketball journey for Reddish given how it started.

Maybe if he had gone to a college where he could've been the man, it would've been different. Or maybe not.

But we can't go back in time. And Reddish never panned out.
