MSU football key wide receiver withdrawing from portal, returning for 2026

Michigan State football picked up a big transfer portal win on Tuesday night, and it wasn't a new player electing to come to the Spartans either.

Michigan State wide receiver Chrishon McCray has reportedly withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will return for a second season with the Spartans in 2026. Christ Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports / CBS Sports reported the notable Michigan State football news on Tuesday night.

McCray transferred from Kent State to Michigan State around this time last year and had a solid first year in the green-and-white last season. He finished the season with 24 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns. His best game of the season came on the road at Iowa when he had 76 yards and two touchdowns in the narrow loss to the Hawkeyes. This is notable as that was one of the few games that returning Michigan State starting quarterback Alessio Milivojevic started last season, proving there is connection between the two already in place.

McCray will be the top returning receiver for the Spartans on next year's team, which is losing Nick Marsh (transferring to Indiana) and Omari Kelly (out of eligibility). The Spartans will remain active in the transfer portal for wide receivers, but this is a great player for Michigan State to retain so it's not going to be a completely overhauled wide receivers room next season.
