From the opening tip, which was won by Minot's Oakley Trueblood, Minot was in control.
The Magicians came out firing, draining a 3-pointer in the first 20 seconds of play. Minot continued to establish dominance down the stretch. Blue Jay senior Gradin Thorlakson cut the visitor's lead to five with a deep 3-pointer but the Magicians responded with a 4-0 run to put them up 14-5.
"We struggled to shoot the ball," Ranum said. "They shot well early, and got the jump on us. We did some things well defensively late first half and second half, but we were just unable to make any shots to take advantage."
Minot went on a 15-2 run to make it 29-7 and forced Ranum to call his second timeout of the half. After breaking the huddle, the Jays went on a 5-0 run but Minot's double-digit lead continued to hold.
