Miller graduate Andrew Body, who last season earned HBCU National Player of the Year honors after a stellar 2025 season at Alabama State, said having the opportunity to compete for a starting job will be the No. 1 focus as he decides his next landing spot after officially entering the transfer portal on Jan. 2.

Body, one of the top passers in Texas high school football history, will move to his third program since leaving high school, beginning his career at Texas Southern before spending the last two seasons at Alabama State.

"The No. 1 thing for me is getting an opportunity to compete for the starting job," Body said during a Zoom interview. "No. 2 is the scheme. I couldn't see myself at an Army or Navy where we are just running the ball. I want to go somewhere where we will put the ball in the air."

The dual-threat quarterback has had to overcome injuries that have cost him time during his college career, including a shoulder injury in Week 10 this season that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He said being forced to the sidelines has helped his leadership and the mental side of his game.

Alabama State had its best season in more than 20 years with Body behind center, as the signal caller was named to the SWAC first team. He threw for 1,770 yards and 20 touchdowns and rused for 518 yards and four touchdowns.

During his time with Texas Southern, Body amassed 2,839 yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2025 Alabama State ranked first or second in the SWAC in 13 offensive statistical categories.

Body, who is represented by Los Angeles-based attorney Vance Owen, and attorneys Robert Heil and Justin Bronk of the Heil Law Firm, said he will announce his visits when they are official and plans to make his decision before the portal window closes Jan. 16.

He said around 10 programs have started to separate from the dozens that have reached out to him since he announced his decision to enter the portal, but gave no hints as to which programs those are during the Zoom interview.

Body has one year of eligibility remaining, but could still petition the NCAA for an additional season due to his injury history. He appeared in one game for the Hornets in 2024, before sustaining a shoulder injury.

"I feel like I bring everything to the table," Body said when asked about his top attributes. "I am a great cheerleader for my teammates, making sure everone one is even keel. Champions don't get too high or too low. I am a triple threat — I can run, thrown and throw on the run. Nothing has changed (since high school), I just got better. The mental side of my game has grown. ... I believe my game transfers (to any level) and want to make sure I can compete for a starting role in a system that fits."
