Will Michigan State quarterback Alessio Milivojevic have some competition in East Lansing?

The Spartans landed a commitment from quarterback Cam Fancher on Tuesday, Jan. 6, who posted on social media that he plans to play for the Spartans.

He will be playing his sixth college season with the Spartans.

Fancher played the first three years of his career at Marshall, then transferred to Florida Atlantic before playing with the Knights last year. He's played in 37 games in his career and passed for 5,727 yards, 27 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Last year with UCF, he completed 41 of 72 attempts for 333 yards and also rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown.

An increasingly-rare lefty QB, he's the first signal-caller the Spartans have landed in the transfer portal under new coach Pat Fitzgerald.

UCF Knights quarterback Cam Fancher runs the ball for a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the second half at Nippert Stadium, Oct. 11, 2025 in Cincinnati.

If nothing else, Fancher will give the Spartans an experienced backup if Milivojevic goes down with an injury.

Milivojevic appeared in nine games during the 2025 season and started the last four games. He went just 1-3, but put up impressive numbers in his start and beat Maryland in the season finale. In his four starts, he threw for 986 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Shortly after Fitzgerald was hired, Milivojevic seemingly re-committed to the MSU program with a social media post.

MSU's other starting quarterback last season, Aidan Chiles, has already entered the transfer portal and is reportedly considering Northwestern.
