Matt Stafford is opening up about one of his favorite roles off the field: being a dad.

In a recent Q&A with the Los Angeles Rams, the quarterback shared what it means to have his four daughters cheering him on throughout his career — and how their presence has become a grounding force before games.

“They are my favorite part of life and It’s so cool to be able to have those moments with them before games doing something that I love that they have learned to love and support me and our team. It’s really fun to watch them blossom into the young ladies they are and the fans of football and their dad and all of the teammates,” Stafford said.

He added that those moments with his girls play a big role in his mindset heading into game day. “It’s really fun. It’s what keeps me coming back and it gets me in the right headspace every time so I love having them there.”

Matthew and his wife, Kelly Stafford, are parents to four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, born in March 2017; Hunter, born in August 2018; and Tyler, born in June 2020.

The couple first shared their pregnancy news in October 2016 with a heartfelt Instagram post featuring their dogs, Marley and Champ. Their journey to parenthood wasn’t without challenges though, as Kelly previously revealed the couple turned to in vitro fertilization after facing fertility issues.

“It wasn't an easy time but there’s a lot of people that go through it and figure out ways to get through it, and it’s a thing that helps a lot of people and obviously helped us,” Matthew shared during a May 2024 episode of The Morning After with Kelly Stafford & Hank.

The Staffords welcomed their third daughter, Hunter Hope Stafford, on August 16, 2018. Kelly announced her pregnancy earlier that year during a family vacation, later revealing that she had surprised Matthew with the news the previous Christmas.

“Well it’s too tough to keep this secret any longer,” she wrote at the time, alongside a beach photo showing her baby bump, Matthew, and their twin daughters.

Their youngest daughter, Tyler Hall Stafford, was born on June 26, 2020 — during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reflecting on that experience, Matthew spoke candidly in a 2021 video for the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

“It's difficult enough having a child, being a parent for the first time or the second time or the third time,” he said. “Doing it in the middle of a pandemic brings all sorts of new challenges.”

Through it all, Stafford has made it clear that fatherhood remains his greatest joy — and his strongest motivation, both on and off the field.
