Maintaining form is Posh's sole focus - Williams

Peterborough United boss Luke Williams says he will not allow his side to get carried away by a six-match unbeaten run including five wins.

Posh were bottom of League One when the former Notts County and Swansea City boss was appointed in late October.

But they are now 11th, five points clear of the relegation places, but only six away from the play-off positions.

"When I arrived, the goal difference was quite heavily against us, minus 12 I think, it's zero as of today," Williams told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"We were five points below the dreaded line and we're five points above it now.

"It's a new year, a new start and we're in the middle of the table, so let's try to maintain the recent form and I don't think we need to look further than that."

Peterborough have only conceded three goals in that undefeated run but are set to be without centre-back David Okagbue for a number of weeks because of an ankle injury suffered against Reading in their final game of 2025.

"He caught a foot just above his ankle that turned the ankle quickly and has done some damage in there," said Williams.

"There's no break but that's really unfortunate. He's an excellent footballer who was playing very well for the team. We're probably looking at a bit more than a month (out) maybe."

Striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan also missed the 2-0 New Year's Day win at Rotherham, but his absence should only be a short one.

Williams continued: "He got some special treatment - he's got some new close friends from that game (against Reading) - but that's part and parcel of a physical game.

"People are not just going to allow talented players to have everything their own way - part of being a football team is that toughness, and attempting to knock opponents off their stride and to not allow them to feel comfortable on the pitch.

"Unfortunately, Jimmy picked up one too many heavy knocks but we're becoming more accustomed to that and we have to learn to be brave enough to deal with that and still continue to try to play. The pain will subside fairly quickly and I'm sure he'll be back involved in a very short time."

Peterborough also faced a physical test against Rotherham, with wingers Declan Frith and Kyrell Lisbie on the receiving end of some heavy tackles.

"We knew we were going to have to stand up to that and players couldn't hide away - and they absolutely didn't," added Williams.

"Kyrell got some really heavy treatment, and so did Declan, but they were brave enough to continue to take the ball and try and make their actions, and they stood up to that physical challenge.

"We knew they were going to be a resolute team and would try tooth and nail to be in the game with us but eventually we managed to find enough openings to get the game won."
