One of the most commonly discussed names among LSU football fans since Lane Kiffin was hired as the Tigers’ head coach is Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy. The Tigers recently hired his positional coach, offensive coordinator, and head coach, leading many LSU fans to hope that the sophomore running back might make his way to Baton Rouge after the Rebels finish their run in the College Football Playoff.
Those rumors have been dispelled, however, as On3’s Pete Nakos has reported that Lacy will return to Oxford for the 2026 season. Lacy is the second potential LSU target who has inked a new deal to stay at Ole Miss, as quarterback Trinidad Chambliss did the same on Monday.

Here’s the good news: LSU still has Harlem Berry on the roster. Many assumed Berry would head to Oxford with his former running backs coach, Frank Wilson, but he announced last week that he will remain in Baton Rouge next season.

Berry didn’t fill up the stat sheet this year, taking 104 carries for 491 yards and two touchdowns, but he flashed his potential when given the opportunity.
Here’s the thing about the discussion of what LSU should do at running back this offseason: Sure, it would be nice to have someone with Lacy’s talent and experience, but without a line to open holes for him, it won’t matter who the back is. The money that would be spent convincing Lacy to sign with LSU this offseason would be better spent on the offensive line.
LSU posted the worst PFF run-blocking grade in the conference in 2025, and three of the five projected starters for next year are transferring. Kiffin and his staff need to build a line that can give Berry some room to work, or the run game will be just as bad as last year’s, no matter who it is taking the carries.
