As the start of the 2026 college baseball season inches closer by the day, the Texas Longhorns are making national headlines. On Monday, Baseball America released its preseason poll, ranking Texas as the eighth-best team in the country. It marked the Longhorns' third preseason top-10 ranking.
The high praise comes as no surprise given how active Texas has been this offseason. Their additions through the transfer portal include Aiden Robbins, Luke Dotson, Carson Tinney, Ashton Larson, Cal Higgins, and Hayden Leffew. That group will be tasked with helping Texas win its second straight SEC title.
While the Longhorns roster features many new faces, they will also have a few talented veterans to rely on. They will welcome back star pitcher Dylan Volantis and their top two hitters from last season, Ethan Mendoza and Adrian Rodriguez. The roster will also include 14 freshmen from a recruiting class ranked the best in the nation by Baseball America.

With a loaded roster, the Longhorns are in a good position to be even better than last year. The Longhorns finished the 2025 campaign with a 44-14 record. They also thrived in conference play, going 22-8 against SEC teams. Their success was partly due to a potent offense and a very good pitching staff.
Although the expectations are higher than ever, head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his staff are ready to meet the challenge. They have built a team that is deep at almost every position, with players who still have more room to grow. For the rest of the SEC, that is bad news, as the Longhorns have a bright future ahead.
Opening Day is still weeks away, but the Longhorns look like a team ready to make a deep playoff run, and publications nationwide hold them in high regard.
