On the heels of good news the past two days, not everything is going perfectly for Michigan football. New head coach Kyle Whittingham said at his introductory press conference that his primary goal upon taking the job is player retention, but it's been a bit of a mixed bag.
With players such as Bryce Underwood, Blake Frazier, and Andrew Marsh set to return, there continues to be attrition, and some is unexpected. Among them was an announcement via On3's Hayes Fawcett that freshman safety Jordan Young will be entering the transfer portal.
Young came on strong in the second half of his freshman campaign, having seen the field regularly and having key plays against both Northwestern and Texas. He was thought to be a likely key contributor in the upcoming season. It's unclear if he's connected with his new position coach, Tyler Stockton, or if this is exploratory, as Stockton was just announced as hired on Monday evening.

Without Young, Michigan is hoping that Rod Moore will be able to return for his sixth season. Likewise, the Wolverines still have Mason Curtis, Brandyn Hillman, Jacob Oden, and Kainoa Winston. However, Young is the second safety to leave via the portal with Jaden Mangham having transferred to Purdue.
