Jonas Urbig reflects on Bayern Munich’s first match of 2026

Bayern Munich ushered in the year with a great start. A 5-0 win over RB Salzburg was an awesome sign of things to come for the year, and there were some bright individual performances from this match that will excite fans.

One of those would be Jonas Urbig’s performance.

Urbig finished the game with a clean sheet (Sven Ulreich played the second half and kept the home side off the board) and while Urbig was not overly tested, he provided stability in the back and has been quietly putting together a run of form. Urbig was asked after the game to make comments on the team’s performance.

“It was a good game, we won 5-0. We were good both defensively and going forward. We scored a lot of goals and were stable defensively, and that was great to kick off the new year. Now it’s all about training and regenerating to hit the level we want to be at. We’re very optimistic,” said Urbig, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has now recorded a clean sheet in four of his last five starts with the club. While Urbig didn’t make any comments on his playtime, there is certainly a growing argument to give more appearances to the young goalkeeper.

While Manuel Neuer is having a great season of his own, is it time to give the legendary goalkeeper more relief as Bayern heads into the business end of the season? Let us know in the comments!
