Jan. 3—BUFFALO — When Jaxon Boschee hit a 3-pointer late in the second half against Buffalo, he had no idea he had just made history.
Entering the Bemidji High School boys basketball game on the road against Buffalo, he needed 17 points to pass Jim Jensen as the BHS all-time scoring leader.

He was two points away from tying the record late in the second half. After taking a pass from Jayden Bondy, Boschee fired from 3-point range and sank it, putting him exactly at 17 points.
In an 88-69 loss, he officially passed Jensen and now has the most in school history with 1,764 career points.
But for Boschee, he didn't have a clue that was the bucket that put his name in the record books until head coach Steve Thompson called timeout.
"I knew going into the game that I needed 17, but I didn't realize that until we called a timeout, and then everybody started cheering," Boschee said. "And then I was like, 'Oh, yeah, that's (the record).'"

While it's a pleasure to get the record, Boschee was not focused on it leading up to the game against Buffalo. He's been focusing on the team and their success rather than when he'll break the record.
"I knew the last couple of games that it was going to be close," he said. "I wasn't really concerned about which game it was; I was mainly just trying to play well and win. So I wouldn't say it's a huge weight off my shoulders, but it definitely feels good."
Boschee felt great that he got the record, but was disappointed that it came in a loss. Buffalo is undefeated to begin the season.
"Obviously, that would have made it better," Boschee said. "They're a really good team. There's a reason why they're undefeated."

Rhys Sneide was the Lumberjacks' highest scorer with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Boschee finished right behind him with his 17 points, followed by Bondy's 10.
The Bemidji defense had trouble stopping Buffalo's dual threat of Thomas Jordan and Eli Hegle. Jordan scored a game-high 28 points, while Hegle scored 24.
Still, getting the record is an honor for Boschee, who's now officially Bemidji's most prolific scorer in history.
"I put in a lot of work to get here," he said. "I want to thank everybody who helped me, too. My teammates, all of them, I couldn't have done it without every one of them. My family, (too). So, yeah, it's just a good feeling."
